MEET THE MAKER
Keren Smolarski, the founder and creative director of Sila Jewellery is fascinated by all things natural, historical, and cultural. An avid traveller and yogi, Keren weaves these elements and inspirations into every piece.
Growing up in Sweden, Keren loved rummaging through her grandfathers attic looking for interesting objects. Each piece conveyed its own story. Stories of celebration and stories of relatives long gone. A whole world existed behind every ceramic and antiquity. Sometimes the thrill of the find was as valuable as the find itself.
During her years at university, much of Keren's time was spent walking the historical cobble stone streets of the Old City in Stockholm. Stockholm is also surrounded by beautiful natural park lands and a great deal of her child hood was lived "in the wild".
Keren's journey from Sweden took her to Israel where she unearthed her creative talent and honed her craft. Israel, with its tremendous cultural dynamics and deep mix of history and modernity was a catalyst for further inspiration.
In Israel, Keren met her Australian husband and she again embarked on a new journey across land and sea to the other side of the world, to Melbourne, Australia. A place Keren now calls home.
Keren's creative passion is channelled through the pieces she fashions. Her pieces are organic and sometimes imperfectly perfect; infused with clean lines and where appropriate, a dash of colour. The old school technique of wax carving is at the heart of Sila jewellery's fabrication process.
The origin of the Sila brand stems from three places which have truly shaped its maker and her craft. Sweden (S) where she grew up, an amazing place that beds her strong foundation and character. Israel (il) which holds her heart and elevates her soul and Australia (a) where her family nurtures her life and being.
By choosing a Sila Jewellery piece, you become part of a link in a chain of authenticity and inspiration. A piece of jewellery that you can pass down and weave into your own chain, adding in your own story.
